Flood at Salem, OR 1/19/12
Today, the several rivers and creeks surrounding, and woven through the capitol city of Salem, Oregon are in or near flood stage. The Santiam River to the South, is entirely snow-fed and the sno-pak is melting fast under the relentless torrent of warm rain know as the "Pineapple Express." The mighty Willamette River is the western border of our city and is capable of absorbing most of the runoff from its many tributaries, and we hope that it will this time,.
Running through the city and its suburbs are several large creeks and streams, many are fed by the Santiam and all are in flood stage today. These pictures cover primarily Pringle Creek - from it's entry into our town at its southeast corner, and to the creek's convergence with the Willamette literally under a portion of our City Hall.
There's more rain on the way, and even the Santiam will not crest until tomorrow. These 15 images represent a snapshot of our flood today.
